All Aboard!!!

I was asked to do my first Thomas the Train Cake. Now as a kid i didn't really watch Thomas the Train. I was born in the late 70's which means my cartoons consisted of Sesame Street and Flinestones. As i got older it was Inspector Gadgit, Rainbow Bright, The Smurfs and who could forget Jem and the Holograms. (I even owned one of the mistfits :))

This was my first real challenge of a cake! To replicate Thomas the Train. Boy was this a challenge but a fun challenge.

The cake is a lemon cake and the back end of the train is filled with raspberry puree (the raspberries came from my own garden) The cake was covered in vanilla buttercream and then in fondant. The face of Thomas the Train is made out of half fondant, half gumpaste. My co-worker who requested this cake found this awesome Tutorial on how to make the face.
